Stephanie Nicole Ella, 7, died yesterday at the East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City. She was hit by a stray bullet from an unidentified gun firer on New Year's Eve, while standing just outside her parent's house in Barangay Camarin, Caloocan City. She was with her cousins, and some of her aunts and uncles, when the bullet hit her on the right side of the head.
The bullet lodged in her brain and rendered her unconscious for three days. Doctors say the bullet was almost about to exit through her right eye. Her father, Jay, or Avelino Ella Jr., was by her bedside all throughout the ordeal, operating a manual pump to continue feeding oxygen into her little body. Stephanie Nicole expired at 2:26 PM yesterday.
Caloocan City police were in the area near the Ellas' residence since New Year's Day, after the incident was reported to PNP chief Director-General Allan Purisima. Members of the family earlier said some male residents there would fire their guns indiscriminately with no occasion.
