The Supreme Court has temporarily stopped the Bureau of Internal Revenue from collecting value-added tax (VAT) on motorist fees at the expressways. After the release of the order, operators of South Luzon Expressway, North Luzon Tollway, and the Metro Manila-Cavite Coastal Road removed signs saying that toll fees will increase on Monday, August 16.
The high court gave BIR ten days to comment on the petitions against collecting VAT on toll fees. Also included in the TRO is the planned increase of up to 285% on toll rates for motorists using the Alabang-to-Calamba City portion of SLEX. It is the fourth time this increase has been put on hold.
