Cynthia Sigler of Vista knew for months that she was going to have a big baby boy, but 13 pounds, 14 ounces?
On Friday, newborn Jayden Sigler cut quite a profile in the neonatal intensive care unit at Tri-City Medical Center, where he was born at 10:44 a. m. Thursday. Low blood sugar at the time of birth put him temporarily in the neonatal ICU, normally the domain of tiny babies well under 5 pounds.
Sigler said doctors estimated two months ago that Jayden would weigh about 9 pounds at birth. But no one thought he would graze the underside of 14 pounds. t some sort of joke. s birth weight is almost twice as large as that of his sister, Jailyn, who is now 2 1/2 years old. She was 7 pounds, 2 ounces at birth. s size has rendered useless most of the baby clothes in the Sigler household. Sigler said.
White said the largest baby he had delivered before Jayden weighed 12 pounds, 7 ounces.
A hospital official was unable to determine Friday whether or not Jayden is the largest baby ever delivered at Tri-City. It was also not clear Friday afternoon where the newborn fits in terms of the largest babies born in San Diego County.
The Guinness Book of Records lists giantess Anna Bates as giving birth to the largest baby of all time on Jan. 19, 1879. s weight at 23 pounds, 12 ounces. The largest surviving birth, according to Guinness, was a boy born in 1955 who weighed 22 pounds, 8 ounces.
