'Still noynoying re oil price hikes'

Anakbayan to Aquino: What happened to promises to stop oil overpricing?

Amidst news of planned "big time" increases in oil prices, youth group Anakbayan reminded President Noynoy Aquino of his promised moves to investigate and stop oil price hikes and overpricing.

"It appears nothing has been done since the president promised to review the oil deregulation law and conduct an independent review regarding oil overpricing. Noynoying forever?" said Vencer Crisostomo, national chairperson of Anakbayan.

A few months ago, Anakbayan coined the term "noynoying" to highlight the government's inaction amidst oil price and tuition hikes.

Crisostomo called the Aquino government a "protector of the greedy oil cartel" since it could not even stop oil companies from hiking prices during the disaster which struck the nation last week. Oil firms raised prices last August 7, as massive rains struck the country and also on August 20.

"Kung gaano kalakas yung habagat e ganoon din katindi ang kaganidan nila. They hiked prices amidst tragedy. Some parts of the country are now still recovering from the floods, but this fact won't be enough for oil firms to moderate their greed and not implement price hikes," Crisostomo said.

"Meanwhile, we have a government which is obviously a puppet of the oil monopolies. Otherwise, how do we explain their continued inaction?" he said.

Multisectoral groups held a noise barrage in Manila today to oppose oil price hikes. Anakbayan said more protests will be held against oil overpricing and "government noynoying."
