2 suspects in rape-slay of 7-yr old slain inside MPD headquarters

Inside the headquarters of Manila Police District, two suspects in the rape and killing of a seven-year-old girl in Sta. Mesa went out of the detention cell without handcuffs, to throw a pail of urine into the toilet bowl in the adjoining comfort room late last night. According to MPD accounts,  Cecilio Bacolo, 19, and Roderick Soliveres, 28, both pedicab drivers in Sta. Mesa, attempted to grab the service pistol of one of the guards, and were shot - one took a bullet in the chest, the other on the head. 

Policement brought them to the Philippine General Hospital, but both were dead on arrival - DOA in police parlance. 

Bacolo knew the girl - Arnieca Abando, a first grader at the F. Ma. Guerrero Elementary School - since he was renting a room at her parents' house. Soliveres first inquired about the girl Friday morning, around 8:00 a.m., while they were drinking outside the victim's house. It was Soliveres who coached Bacolo into inviting the young girl over, and in a few minutes, the suspects took the child with them, rode a jeep to Sta. Mesa and headed straight to the house allegedly owned by Soliveres’ friend on Pat Antonio street in Sta. Mesa, Manila. There, they took turns in raping her. 

They killed the girl by strangling her with a nylon rope, and left her there. Arnieca’s half-naked body was found on the fourth floor of the house, with a nylon cord looped around her neck. Investigators said there were ligature marks on her neck, lacerations on her body and blood on her genitals. Her body was discovered at around 9:20 p.m., nearly 12 hours after the incident.

Bacolo and Soliveres were presented yesterday to Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim.
