North Triangle residents will block the North bound lane of EDSA for five minutes during the rush hour tomorrow, October 17, at 5pm.
Led by September 23 Movement, a local alliance of residents of Sitio San Roque, other urban poor groups under CONTRACBD, will protest the demolition of homes along BIR Road yesterday, and the treacherous move against the leaders aimed at weakening the defense of residents against the Quezon City Central Business District. Recently, six resident activist of North and East Triangle were issued with warrants of arrest for cases of illegal assembly and malicious mischief, after staging a protest action in Times St.
According to the residents, the Aquino government is implementing the eviction of urban poor settlers from their communities, without any remorse. This despite the killings of 11 urban poor in defense of their homes, and thousands of families and children who ended up homeless or more impoverished in the government's relocation sites. Residents claimed Aquino's demolition rampage in urban poor communities has to stop.
