Sotto Must Be Held Accountable for Plagiarism -LP Youth

The Filipino Liberal Youth (FLY) and the National Alliance of Liberal Student Formations (NALSF) under Liberal Party Youth Network (LP Youth) reaffirms its support to the Reproductive Health bill pending before the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Philippines. We strongly discourage efforts to derail the passage of the bill through distortion of facts and unwillingness to be accountable to such distortion. Plagiarism must not be condoned in our government as it has serious implication on the moral ascendancy of our leaders. When it is the government and its officials who break proper rules of conduct, it loses its moral capital to promote positive values in our society. How can a public official who committed plagiarism can enforce intellectual property laws? A leader is not above accountability, nor is he above reproach for transgressions that ordinary citizens would suffer had they committed the same act.
Sen. Tito Sotto III is no different from a student who passed off the work of his colleague as his own. The latter would have been expelled by any reputable academic institution. It is high time we expect the same high standards from our leaders.
In light of this, we add our voice to the challenge posted on Sen. Tito Sotto III to engage in a "tag-team" debate that will at best, promote accountability in our opinion makers like him. We believe that through this debate issues and facts will come to be crystallized. Armed with correct and factual information, the Filipino people can arrive at a better decision.
