STATEMENT OF CAGAYAN REP. JACK ENRILE (1ST DISTRICT) DURING THE FILING OF

CERTIFICATE OF CANDIDACY (COC) AT COMELEC

Today, I file my certificate of candidacy as Senator of the Republic and run under the banner of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) for the 2013 midterm elections.

I participate in this political exercise leading in the call of thousands of our farmers, fisherfolks and other food producers for a shift in agricultural framework that adapt to the changing environment and that would truly provide greater empowerment not just to our producers but also to the consuming public.

Since December 2010, I have toured 72 provinces in consultation for a realistic approach to the problem. For we are slowly witnessing a world food crisis forthcoming and it's imperative for us to ensure supply for all.

But of course, this is not solely about supplies; it's also about the access to it. Our people should not be deprived of feeding themselves in their own country. It is a basic right to have access to food, more importantly, affordable food products. And so I say: Mababang presyo, iwas gutom.

This campaign is about making bountiful, accessible and cheaper food for all. For an active economy relies on healthy bodies; productivity is greater if stomachs are not empty.

It is my pledge that our aspirations as a people will continuously be reflected through necessary and realistic legislations that I would advance should the opportunity to serve higher office is trusted upon.

Our crusade continues. Murang pagkain. Maraming pagkain. Gusto ko, may pagkain kayo!

Maraming salamat po.
