Ginawa ni Pres'l Spokesman Edwin Lacierda ang pahayag matapos paunlakan ni Bartolome ang kahilingan ng Pangulo na magretiro ng maaga para bigyan siya ng "free hand" na pumili ng bagong PNP chief at iwasan ang election ban sa appointment nito.
Nauna rito, inilagay ni si Bartolome sa "non-duty o floating status" dahil sa pagtanggi na magretiro ng mas maaga sa March 16.

Sinabi ni Lacierda na natutuwa ang Pangulo sa positibong tugon ni Bartolome sa kahilingan ng kanyang Commander-in-chief dahil sa maihahanda na ng PNP ang mga plano sa peaceful at orderly election.
"Certainly, our concern here is for the situation in the coming national and local elections. We want to ensure that there will be peace and order hence the need for us to prepare early on in terms of securing the election hotspots and ensuring peace and order throughout the country during the elections," pahayag pa ni Lacierda.
Iginiit pa ni Lacierda na wala ring kaugnayan sa performance ni Bartolome ang desisyon ng Pangulo na ilagay siya sa floating status.
"Certainly there is nothing to do with his performance as PNP chief," paglilinaw pa ni Lacierda.
